Book Mouse website [Jan. 14th, 2005|08:42 am]
104 Books in 2005

[Current Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

Hey there! As I talked about before, I went and set up a book_mouse section on my bookish domain here.

If you're interested in keeping an alphabetized reading list there, just get in touch with me and I'll set you up, the way I already did with jenish and anne_elliot. Also, if you'd like to write book reviews, you'd be very welcome to - I'd just have to add you to the blog I set up there, and you could get started...

A good Friday, everyone! :)

Hello everyone!
My Splitting Headache of Doom™ has lifted a bit, so here I am posting my Reading List for the moment...I'll make a list of books I have and want to read later too, these are only the ones I'm reading at the moment.

Books!Collapse )

I don't know if I'll be able to get to 104 books in one year, even if I am an avid and very quick reader...time is something I'm missing too much, lately! ::sobs::

Lots of love to everyone

Hi there! :) [Jan. 9th, 2005|11:13 am]
104 Books in 2005

[Current Mood |contemplativecontemplative]

After doing it once before (for half a year in 1999) I started keeping track again of what I read in March 2004 and managed to read exactly 80 books in the rest of 2004. Now I'm starting a new list for 2005, which will hopefully be even longer.

I find that reading books nourishes me in a way fanfiction or movies just don't. I'm also a great book collector - I need to own books, have them for myself, to read over and over if I so desire... This has resulted in my room being filled with shelves overflowing with hundreds of books, because I have a hard time throwing books out, even if I don't think that I'll ever read them again.

Anyway, there was a point in this ramble - you can find my continually updated book list here, on my bookish domain. You can also see what books I'm currently reading or planning to read and find some recs I've done over the years, as well as my book-related fanlistings.

And here's an idea I had: Wouldn't it be fun to have a book_mouse section on The Bookshelf? For example, if anyone here would like to have a similar alphabetized reading list, I can easily set you up with the phpSimpleAlpha script I'm using, so all you'd have to do is log in and add your books. And if anyone would be interested in writing book recs and putting them up, I'd also be more than happy to help out with that!

Just pondering... :)

104 Books in 2005

Hey all-

Just joined and am happy to have found a book community. Yay! I have a recommendation for you all:

Black Boy by Richard Wright (1908-1960). It's just...awesomely amazing and profound, yet so real. It was first published in 1945, I believe. Here's what it says on the back, since I'm terrible at summarizing books:

"Black Boy is a classic of American autobiography, a subtly crafted narrative of Richard Wright's journey from innocence to experience in the Jim Crow South. An enduring story of one young man's coming of age during a particular time and place. Black Boy remains a seminal text in our history about what it means to be a man, black, and Southern in America."

Here's a quote from Part 2, one of the many that resonated within me and inspires me to write in his styleCollapse )
