Because I'm closing down TheBookshelf.org, I moved the Book Mouse website to another one of my domains. It also has a new layout, so check it out! :)

If anyone else is interested in keeping track of what they read, feel free to get in touch.

Question [May. 5th, 2005|05:00 pm]
104 Books in 2005

Anyone who's read Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy:

I started reading it this morning (and am already half way through it and really enjoying it btw) but I just wanted to see how everyone pronounces Zaphod. So I guess, even if you haven't read it you can comment. Spell it phonetically, obviously. I'm asking because my two best friends the_undeadbride and elfstones pronounce it differently and whilst I'm inclined to agree with the_undeadbride's pronunciation, I wondered what the general consensus would be.

Cheers!

There's a discussion thread about what books you read as a kid/when you were younger here. I've already bought copies of The Mennyms again and found out the name of my favourite book when I was little (I'd forgotten, and it was Bunnicula). I feel a trip to my library and Three Owls (second hand bookshop near the library, HEAVEN) coming on :D

I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon the other day.

I loved it.

Discuss.

Three chapters in to Part TwoCollapse )
But either way, I'm absolutely loving it and should have it finished by sometime next week. I have a very busy weekend unfortunately. I've been told to read Animal Farm and The Handmaid's Tale next. I've already read Brave New World. After this one and those two, will I have read all of those notorious terrifying outcomes for humanity type books? I really like psychological and philosophical aspects to my books. And of course pure fantasy. I'm a diverse little book rabbit mouse, hee.

Book Series Rec [Feb. 14th, 2005|03:26 pm]
104 Books in 2005

I started reading the "In Death" books, by J.D. Robb, because I wanted to expand my reading range to include the mystery/crime genre and thought that starting with a series written by one of my favorite romance authors would get the ball rolling.

Little did I know; the first book captured my interest so thoroughly that I ran to every used book store in a 30 miles radius with a list of the titles and then bought the remaining 10 titles new. Note: these books are very difficult to find in used book stores down here.

I devoured all 21 books in less than 3 weeks and instead of moving on to the next book or series I was compelled to read them again. Yes, I am reading this series twice in rapid succession, which is something I've only done with Anne McCaffrey before. More, I'm enjoying them just as much, if not more, the second time through.

Moral: If you enjoy crime novels, if you enjoy romance novels, or if you enjoy Nora Roberts' books, this series makes it easy to add 21 books to your annual total.

Reviews and the list of titlesCollapse )

Hey, fellow book rodents. Just a little post to say how my reading is coming along this year. Got off to a bit of a slow start this year; was reading Lord of the Rings again, a December tradition, and took way longer than I expected. The other Sunday I finally finished it and read a couple of Oscar Wilde plays too. So, yay! Actually, I've read (and finished) six books so far this year and four of them were plays. 2 Greek Tragedies and 2 Oscar Wilde's.
Currently reading The Sword Of Shannara by Terry Brooks and 1984 by George Orwell. Have only read one chapter of 1984 so far though because elfstones lent me SOS and will kill me if I don't finish it soonish. Anyway, SOS is great so far. I'd recommend to any LOTR fans; there are a lot of parallels in them. And 1984 looks to be good. Wanted to read it for ages, so YAY.
So there you go. Will let you know how I'm getting on in a few weeks ^_^

shirasade sent me over this way and I must say, I like the idea of this community. ::smile:: I'm an avid reader and am always looking for new recommendations. I started keeping track of what I read last year, at the beginning of the year even, with no clear goal. This year I have one.

I just missed 200 total and 100 new books in 2004. My goal for 2005 is 100 new with at least 25 non-fiction. ::nods::

Books read in 2005... so farCollapse )

Current count:

4 new books only
0 new non-fiction
